Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzia complained during a Security Council meeting about Ukrainian sanctions against individuals associated with the creation and distribution of the Russian animated series “Masha and the Bear.” The Russian diplomat used this topic to further accuse Ukraine of alleged “Russophobia.”

The representative of the aggressor state called Ukraine a “Zelensky concentration camp” and declared an alleged “complete ban on dissent.” He accused Kyiv’s Western partners of financing the continuation of the war, which Russia itself started with a full-scale invasion in February 2022.

As an example of the alleged “destruction of everything Russian,” Nebenzya cited sanctions against individuals associated with the animated series “Masha and the Bear.”

“Not only is the Russian language being suppressed – everything connected with our common past is being destroyed. The Kyiv authorities are showing deep-rooted Russophobia and xenophobia,” he said.

Nebenzia was also outraged by the argument about using the animated series to promote Russian narratives.

“The poverty of the authorities can be seen in a funny example – the Russian animated series “Masha and the Bear” was sanctioned in Ukraine because it promotes the Russian militaristic narrative,” the Russian permanent representative said.
