NATO must change the trajectory of the war in Ukraine: Rutte names the necessary steps

According to Rutte, it is necessary to ensure critical air defense for Ukraine and to fulfill the commitments made at the NATO summit in Washington.

NATO needs to change the trajectory of the war in Ukraine, and to do so the Alliance must “go further” in its support, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said, The Guardian reports .

“Our support for Ukraine has allowed them to continue fighting, but we need to go further to change the trajectory of the conflict,” the NATO secretary general said.

In particular, according to Rutte, it is necessary to ensure air defense, which is critical for Ukraine, and to fulfill the commitments made at the NATO summit in Washington.

“A new command, a NATO command to coordinate security and training assistance, a financial commitment of 40 billion euros in 2024 and further measures to bring Ukraine closer to NATO,” he added.

Rutte also stressed that it is critically important to increase investment and production in the military industry.

The Secretary General recalled that in the war against Ukraine, Russia is using North Korean weapons and troops, Iranian drones, and Chinese dual-use goods for its defense industry.

“This is a dangerous expansion of the war and a challenge to global peace and security… The good news is that in NATO we have the alliance we need to defend every inch of our territory,” he said.

NATO PA adopts resolution on assistance to Ukraine

In particular, it provides for the provision of medium-range missiles to Kyiv, including the Tomahawk type. The resolution also provides permission to strike Russian military targets with the provided weapons.

The alliance also said Russia remains the most significant and direct threat to the security of its allies, and called China a decisive accomplice in Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine.
