NATO has surpassed Russia in ammunition production, says Rutte

Alliance countries now produce more ammunition than they did in previous decades.

North Atlantic Treaty Organization member countries are turning the tide in ammunition production . The Alliance is now keeping pace with Russia in this area. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced this during a speech at an industrial forum in Bucharest, Romania.

“We’re already turning the tide with ammunition. Until recently, Russia produced more ammunition than all NATO allies combined. But that’s no longer the case. Across the Alliance, we’re currently opening dozens of new production lines and expanding existing ones,” Rutte emphasized.

In particular, as the Secretary General of the Alliance noted, NATO countries are now producing more ammunition than they did in previous decades.

As Rutte emphasized, such progress must be developed in other areas – from high-quality air defense systems to inexpensive interceptor drones.

He added that the amount of resources is key, and in this regard, creativity is another driving factor. “It’s about the power of innovation,” Rutte said.

“We need to outsmart our adversaries using all our power to stay secure in the future,” he added.

  1. I’m pleased that the EU has started to increase its military industry. However, I find that my cynicism has grown recently, so I ask a question, why is Rutte so pleased with himself and the EU countries? If I read the GDP rankings correctly, the combined EU GDP is $18.1 trillion being the second largest economy behind the US. Russia on the other hand has a GDP of $2.1 trillion, being the 11th largest economy, which is equivalent to the combined GDP of Spain, Portugal and Andorra.

The EU should be smoking Russia in any field of endeavor. If anything, I’d be ashamed to announce the EU is equal to Russia.

    • Sir Cap, as I read the title of this piece, I was thinking along the same lines as your comment. I don’t think that NATO has much room to brag.
