Moldovan President says whether Ukraine offers to resolve Transnistria issue

Ukraine has never offered to help Moldova resolve the Transnistria problem. And if such an offer is made, Moldova will oppose a military solution, according to Moldovan President Maia Sandu.

The Moldovan President was told that earlier the media reported that Ukraine had offered to resolve the issue with Transnistria. However, Sandu assured that there had never been any official statements on this issue.

“What we read, what some people said in the media, but officially, with all responsibility, I tell you, there has never been such an offer,” she said.

She also clarified that Moldova has not received any unofficial proposals, and added again that Chisinau wants to resolve the Transnistrian conflict peacefully.

Sandu emphasized that hypothetically if Moldova receives an offer to remove the Russian military from Transnistria, the country will reject the military option for resolving the issue.

What preceded it

In 2023, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine were preparing to invade Transnistria. At that time, the Center for Strategic Communications said it was a fake.

“Any involvement of Ukraine in resolving the issue of Russian occupation of Transnistria is possible only with Moldova’s consent and after consultations with EU and NATO countries,” they said then.

At the same time, recently, Moldova’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Popșoi, announced that the Moldovan authorities were discussing the Transnistria issue with Ukraine, but the cooperation is aimed only at maintaining calm and peace.

  1. Does she think that the orcs will not invade Moldova? I think she is being naive myself. She should ask Ukraine to remove the scum, putler could hardly do anything about it.

    • What is she afraid of? Transnistria does not border ruSSia and ruSSian strikes would have to pass UA airspace anyway.

      • I understand it would be very embarassing for Moldova if another country had to solve the Transnistrian problem. Looks like President Sandu is trying to avoid that as long as possible, but still, to let this RuSSian mafia have their own colony isn’t a healthy state of affairs. This madness needs to be terminated and Moldova should get ready for that. Or else Ukraine will have to take action some not so far away day. 🤨

      • True, Mike, but even that minor Russian force is a threat to small Moldava. And those crooks are actively involved in undermining the government in Chisinau. This transnistrian pigsty needs to be cleaned up, rather sooner than later.

      • Moldova has no army, absolutely no money and few strategic depth.

It doesn’t take a lot for Transnistria and Russia to do quite a lot of harm.

So, what sort of solution does Sandu have? With mafia land, there can be only a military solution. Otherwise, Moldova will never get rid of the scourge.
If the cockroaches there get active against Ukraine, regradless of which way, Ukraine will solve the problem, if Moldova wants it or not.
