One of the gas supply routes to Ukraine passes through Moldova.

Moldova has decided to halve its gas transit tariff to Ukraine for the 2025-2026 heating season, according to the website of the National Energy Regulatory Agency of Moldova.

Thus, the day before, the agency adopted a decision on the operating conditions of the Moldovan branch of the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline, which transports gas from Greece to Central and Eastern Europe. The approved changes stipulate that the gas transportation tariff will be reduced by 50% over a six-month period (November 2025 – April 2026).

It is noted that this is a joint initiative of the gas transmission system operators of Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine. The Romanian gas transmission system operator has also reportedly introduced a 50% reduction in gas transportation tariffs.

“The initiative aims to strengthen regional energy security and ensure natural gas supplies to Ukraine. (…) With this decision, the Republic of Moldova strengthens its role as a regional transit corridor, facilitating the transportation of natural gas from Greece to Ukraine and promoting the diversification of routes and supply sources,” the statement reads.
