Next week, the EU will provide Georgia and Moldova with a questionnaire, the completion of which is necessary for granting the status of an accession candidate.

This was announced on Twitter by the European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Oliver Vargei.

“European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen yesterday (April 8 – ed.) handed over the questionnaire to Ukraine, and on Monday I will hand over the questionnaire to Georgia and Moldova. The answers will help the European Commission draw conclusions on the three countries’ applications for EU membership, at the request of the European Council,” Wrote Varge.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on April 8, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen handed over to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a questionnaire , the completion of which is a necessary step to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate for the European Union. According to her, Ukraine can acquire the status of a candidate for EU membership as early as June 2022.

On February 28, 4 days after the start of the war, Ukraine officially applied to Brussels to join the EU and expressed the hope that the EU, in view of the circumstances, would be able to quickly begin the procedure. An informal EU summit on March 11 gave political consent for the European Commission to start the procedure, but individual states expressed disagreement that the procedure should be expedited.

After Ukraine’s application was filed, similar applications were filed by Georgia and Moldova.
