Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the world must finally choose peace. He delivered a powerful message from the “land of Gandhi and the land of Buddha” and
called on Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to end “endless war.”
Modi made the remarks during a meeting with Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek. The Indian leader stressed that his country supports all efforts aimed at achieving peace and intends to continue such support.

During his conversation with Putin, the Indian Prime Minister recalled that the topic of Russia’s war against Ukraine has been discussed between them repeatedly, and it will be the “main mantra” in today’s negotiations.
“This will be our main mantra. We have always discussed the topic of Ukraine. Even the last time we met, you told me everything in detail,” Modi said.
The Indian leader said that every day of war sets humanity back, while steps towards peace give people new hope. He stressed that India’s position is to support peace efforts.
“India supports all efforts aimed at achieving peace and will continue to support all these efforts. Every day spent in war pushes humanity back, and every step taken towards peace fills all humanity with new hope and enthusiasm,” the Indian Prime Minister said.
He called for a transition from a protracted war to its end.
“We must move from endless war to the cessation of war. We must move in this direction because it is very necessary for the well-being of humanity,” he stressed.
India proposes ending era of bloodshed
According to Modi, all disputes and issues must be resolved through negotiations and peaceful settlement, and this should be done as soon as possible.
“The call of humanity is that all issues be resolved peacefully as soon as possible,” he said.
The Indian Prime Minister also called his statement a message from the “land of Gandhi” and the “land of Buddha”, emphasizing that India is calling for an end to the era of bloodshed.
“This is the message of India, the land of Gandhi. The land of Buddha has only one message: the path of peace,” Modi said.
According to him, during the meeting with Putin, the parties should discuss, among other things, these issues.

The United Kingdom’s former Prime Minister Boris Johnson made a striking remark about the India-Russia relationship on Saturday, recalling a conversation with the late Queen Elizabeth on the matter.
Speaking at The Economic Times ‘World Leaders Forum’, Johnson said he once told Queen Elizabeth II about “how difficult it was to persuade our Indian friends to firmly come down against Russia.”
He then went on to share the late queen’s response, in which she recalled her meeting with India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, in 1952.
The Queen told Johnson that in 1952, when she met PM Nehru, he said that “India will always be on the side of Russia.”
