Yesterday evening, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the Russian space communications center in Crimea . “Schemes ” – a project of Radio Liberty – published satellite images of the consequences of the strike.
The Planet Labs satellite recorded traces of a fire on the territory of a Russian military facility in the village of Vitino near occupied Yevpatoriya. According to OpenStreetMap data, the Center for Long-Range Space Communications of the Russian Aerospace Forces is located there. As Schemes note, this military unit is an important element in the Russian space communications and satellite navigation system.
“The Liana satellite surveillance and information collection systems are located on the territory of this Center, which includes the Lotos and Pion-NKS satellites. Pion-NKS, in particular, uses active radar for maritime reconnaissance and information collection,” – military expert Anatoly Khrapchinsky said in a commentary to the project.
According to him, the occupiers could also use this facility to control groups of satellites of the Russian GLONASS satellite navigation system, as well as space electronic warfare systems, which are designed to suppress signals from satellites of other countries.

Missile strikes on Crimea: latest news
As UNIAN wrote, yesterday occupied Crimea was hit twice by missiles. First , the Sevastopol area was attacked during the day . While repelling this attack, several people on the beach were killed as a result of Russian air defense, which the Russians themselves admitted.
Late in the evening, a new missile attack occurred , which was aimed at the space communications center of the occupying army.

If I didn’t know better I’d say this has a U.S. X marks the spot on it. Didn’t Russia launch a nuclear satellite not too long ago ?
