On the morning of Monday, June 24, the armed forces of the Russian Federation launched a missile attack on the civilian infrastructure of Odessa. As a result of the attack, three local residents were injured, the warehouses of the trading network were damaged, as well as residential buildings and cars located nearby.
According to the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office, a pre-trial investigation has been initiated in criminal proceedings for violating the laws and customs of war (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
“The inspection is ongoing, a complete list of destruction and damage is being established. At the scene of the events, prosecutors in cooperation with other law enforcement officers are documenting the consequences of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation,” the message states.
After the hit, a large-scale fire broke out in the warehouse, which was managed to be contained around 12 noon, the State Emergency Service added.
The report does not specify which chain’s warehouses were hit by a missile, but the Ukrainian Council of Shopping Centers, citing local media, reports that it is the warehouses of the “Tavria V” supermarket chain.
Subsequently, this information was confirmed by the owner of the “Tavria V” network, Boris Muzalyov.
“There have never been any weapons, rockets, or projectiles in our warehouse, neither for the first time nor now. Three hundred employees of the warehouse are witnesses to this,” the businessman wrote on his Facebook page, publishing photos of the results of the raid.
In a comment to the Ukrainian edition of Forbes , the general director of the network, Vitaly Karando, clarified that about 20,000 square meters were destroyed as a result of the impact and fire. m of a single structure of the network, losses can reach 300 million hryvnias.
“This is not taking into account the damage to the building itself, equipment and transport,” he added.
The total area of the single warehouse of “Tavria B” is 52,000 square meters. m. Food, household chemicals and household goods were stored there.
This is not the first hit to the warehouses of this retailer, on June 14, 2023, a Russian missile already hit the food warehouse of the “Tavria V” chain in Odesa. Then three employees died, four more were seriously injured.
