House Speaker Mike Johnson is facing calls to be investigated over alleged “repeated violations” while filing his financial disclosure statements (PFDs).

End Citizens United, a grassroots progressive political group, has written to the Office of Congressional Ethics and asked them to look into Johnson’s finances over claims he has “blatantly omitted” reportable information and made numerous errors in several of his filings since he was first elected to Congress in 2016.

Among some of the key allegations from the group are that the newly elected House Speaker failed to disclose multiple trips paid for by private entities and did not fully report the source of his wife’s income, nor her ownership interests in a privately-held business.

The Office of Congressional Ethics has also been asked to investigate Johnson for failing to list having a personal bank account on his financial disclosure, or disclosing any retirement assets. It was previously reported that Johnson never listed having a savings or checking account in his or his wife Kelly’s name, or in the name of any of his children.

Johnson listed having a retirement account with less than $15,000 in 2016, but has not mentioned it in subsequent filings. As noted by CNN, this could mean the money was moved into a retirement savings account used by federal employees, which was reported between 2017 and 2020. Johnson could have also cashed out the account, or it now has less than $5,000 in it.

In a recent interview with Fox News, Johnson was asked why he has not declared a bank account or assets on a financial disclosure going back to 2016. In response, Johnson replied: “I’m a man of modest means.”

Tiffany Muller, president of End Citizens United, told The Daily Beast it is “laughable” that Johnson did not report any savings or retirement accounts, while accusing the House Speaker of “clearly violating federal laws” in his financial disclosures.

“The American people deserve to know whether the Speaker of the House has financial conflicts of interests, but Speaker Johnson is clearly violating federal laws by hiding critical information from the public,” Muller said.

“It’s laughable to believe that the person leading government funding negotiations doesn’t have a reportable savings or retirement account. But beyond his own potential financial mismanagement, failing to disclose travel and his spouse’s sources of income is against the law and the Office of Congressional Ethics must investigate and hold him accountable.”

Johnson’s office has been contacted for comment via email.

  1. This is such bullshit. It’s crap like this that makes politics so poisonous. An unfounded allegation becomes fact in today’s world. How much disgusting can it get.

    • He hasn’t been burned at the stake yet, Cap. It’s up to others to look into the allegations and to decide on what to do.
Maybe Johnson can think clearer, being under such pressure. At least, he should realize that Ukraine is also under great pressure … from mafia lands war and atrocities, and the prospect of certain American politicians throwing them under the bus.

      • Sir OFP I couldn’t agree with you more. I admit I was really disappointed when I saw the interviews with Johnson on the various networks. I didn’t realize Johnson was such a Trumper. But what’s confusing to me is that in one of those interviews he continued to say that the US can’t abandon Ukraine. So what to believe? Maybe he is a guy who doesn’t swallow all of Trumps crap and picks and chooses his policies or alternatively like other politicians he just full of shit.

        • I’m also a bit confused about Johnson. But, essentially, he can say that until his face turns blue. It’s the actions that count.

    • What, exactly, is bullshit?

The financial disclosure reports are public records, and it’s a fact that he didn’t list any bank accounts.

It’s also a fact that in 2019 he gave a speech to the Council for National Policy’s conference in person, traveling from Washington, D.C., to New Orleans for the October 4, 2019, event. Other Representatives who have spoken at the conference reported their trips as gifted travel, and listed the trip on their personal financial disclosure forms. Johnson didn’t file anything.

The House statement of disbursements at the time shows his office reported commercial travel and lodging expenses that match the October 4 trip. So, did he improperly use taxpayer money for the trip? Or did he fail to report gifted travel that should have been reported? It’s all very sketchy, and certainly worth investigating.

  2. If there is nothing to it then he can just shake it off. But if that was the case why were certain things omitted? It’s public record his wife was/is running a “Christian” psychiatry business. Personally am not buying that he has no retirement and is living on meager means after being a lawyer and now in Congress. Give me a break.

      • See that what I mean, here starts the bullshit. The unfounded accusations, the mounds of conspiracy theories, the judgements without facts. This happened to Trump and countless others. It’s wrong. I don’t mind nailing someone ass to the wall but these theories just need to stop

        • Innocent until proven guilty or innocent until the media decides to trash you? But only Conservatives, the Lefties get away with murder.
          Example:
Cocaine found at the White House then 5 days later they close the case. Nothing to see here! Now, imagine if Trump was in the White House and the Secret Service found cocaine. Be honest, would the case be finished in 5 days? lol…

          • Because a partisan hack posts some bullshit on the internet doesn’t make it real. Sure OFP I’m not saying it’s not true but the way the media describes it as being biblical truth. All I’m saying is stop the hyperbole. You want to report some missing info in an annual report great go ahead. But let’s face it, missing data on these reports amounts to absolutely nothing. It happens all the time and it happens to both parties. I condemn the bullshit from both parties.

            • I also condemn the bullshit from both sides. But, nevertheless, Johnson should be investigated just to make sure. Stupid politicians are bad enough. Politicians who favor a mafia entity are bad enough. But, if they do something that’ll get you and me into prison and not them, that’s when things are going much too far.

  3. There are laws that we are to abide by, it is not conspiracy theory to want accountability from our representatives and elected officials. They too must adhere to the law. Do you really think it’s that far fetched he has a retirement account? And the business of his wife is not some made up story.

      • What witnesses? If there are “dozens of witnesses”, how come the sham impeachment inquiry that Kevin McCarthy opened hasn’t been able to come up with a single one?

If there *was* any evidence that Joe Biden had accepted foreign money I would absolutely support an investigation and, if warranted, an impeachment. But baseless smears made in a desperate attempt to distract from trumpkov’s legal problems aren’t going to cut it.

        • “No blank checks” McCarthy was bad enough. His replacement is a Trumputler puppet.
He claims to be religious, but is indifferent to Ukraine’s suffering genocide, whilst supporting Israel. A position that makes no sense unless you are a halfwit.

  4. Five things I trust more than Mike Johnson:
    1. Gas station sushi.
    2. Bill Cosby mixing drinks.
    3. Andrew Tate dating my daughter.
    4. Lindsey Graham babysitting my teenage son.
    5. Donald Trump Jr. holding my stash.

    • Ha name me any politician you trust. They’re all power hungry publicity seeking assholes whose primary goal is themselves first then maybe others if it helps them in achieving their first goal. I can’t think of an honest politician anymore.
