The Chancellor explained what they talked about.

European countries will increase sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation, a decision that has already been supported by the United States of America.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz reported this on his microblog X. According to him, Europe and America are “very united” in their intentions to closely accompany Ukraine on the path to a ceasefire and to impose new sanctions against Moscow:

“This is what we agreed with US President Donald Trump after his talks with Putin.”

Meanwhile, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said she, along with the presidents of Ukraine, France, and Finland, the Italian prime minister, and the German chancellor, had a good conversation with Trump. During the call, he gave them details of his conversation with Kremlin leader Putin.

“I want to thank President Trump for his tireless efforts to bring about a ceasefire in Ukraine. It is important that the United States remains engaged. We will continue to support Volodymyr Zelensky in achieving lasting peace in Ukraine,” she wrote in X.

Sanctions against Russia

Recall that this month, EU leaders arrived in Kyiv with a call for a ceasefire and the start of peace talks from May 12. Ukraine agreed to this, but Russia refused.

This visit was intended to provide diplomatic grounds for approving a tougher sanctions package against Moscow, as well as a demonstration to the White House that Putin is the obstacle to peace.

However, the EU’s plans were thwarted within days when Trump unexpectedly supported Putin’s initiative to start immediate peace talks in Istanbul.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on Putin to come to the talks and meet in person . Instead, Moscow sent a low-level delegation to Turkey.

Trump held phone calls with Zelensky, Putin, and European leaders today. According to statements from the parties, the US president did not mention the introduction of the promised sanctions at all , but reiterated that Moscow wants peace.

It angers me when the EU spews verbal diarrhea just to pamper to Krasnov’s gigantic ego.
