Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev sees opportunities in Washington’s warning that the United States will “very soon” concern itself with other matters if Moscow and Kiev do not reach an agreement to end the war.
In that case, “Russia will solve it faster,” the deputy head of the Russian National Security Council said on X on Friday.
US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he does not have a “specific number of days” in mind in which an agreement must be reached before he withdraws the United States, but he does want to see progress quickly.
Medvedev sees a possible American withdrawal as an opportunity for a quick and complete victory in Ukraine.
He calls it “wise” for the United States to “wash its hands in innocence if there is no progress.”
“The European Union should do the same. Then Russia will solve it faster,” he said.Russia launched the war on Ukraine more than three years ago. Peace negotiations have made little progress so far.

American officials have said that if there is no progress on the Ukrainian case, the United States will wash its hands of it. Wisely. And the EU should do the same. Then Russia will figure it out faster.
