The United Nations, important as it is, consists of 184 nations, not all of them democratic by a long shot. You must not rely upon them ever to make peace where there is none.
As you have seen this has not happened in Bosnia. They haven’t even insisted that the humanitarian convoys get through. A few Serb guerrillas have been able to stop those humanitarian United Nations convoys, which is appalling.
The only way to keep peace in the world is through the actions of a very powerful nation, such as America.
We should always be extremely grateful that the most powerful nation in the world, the greatest democracy, the greatest believer in freedom and justice from its very Declaration of Independence marvellously drafted by Jefferson (of course he had been an Englishman by descent)—twice this remarkable country, aided and abetted by other people of like mind, in Canada and in Britain, (in the last world war in Europe, of course, it was only Britain that stood out against Hitler), has in fact come to keep freedom alive in the world.
At the moment, there still is no substitute for American leadership. All of the united nations I said that fought in the Gulf—there was Britain and France and other nations including your own who came to join in—were a coalition of nation states. So, that leadership we hope must continue, and we must all be prepared to help. You’ve already seen two wars since the end of the cold war. My friends, we must never, never let our defences go down. Never!
Tyrants and dictators have been born across the ages. They will continue to be born, and we must never let them achieve their aim of taking other people’s land or possessions. That is the task which our generation has.
This century, which was entered into before your time and mine, with such enormous hopes, (of course it was—there was a new mechanization which was going to bring a high standard of living to everyone); everyone knew what constituted a civilized society, they knew the values of civilization, they knew its manners, they knew its customs. Surely, they hoped, the 20th century would be the greatest century of peace the world has ever known. Not a bit of it. This 20th century spawned the two worst tyrannies the world has ever known—Naziism and Communism. And both had to be defeated, although we had learned, after Naziism, that we could never let our defences down.
1993 Nov 8 Mo, Margaret Thatcher.
Speech to the Fraser Institute.

Am assuming that the photo was taken at the speech, which would have been one year after she was kicked out of office. Not by the electorate, but by an internal revolt led by a Euro fanatic: Michael Heseltine.
Heseltine did not succeed, but another Euro fanatic, John Major, took over as PM. It was his pro-EU policies which created the ruinous disillusionment with the Tories that led to the catastrophic victory by Tony Blair in 1997 that then led to 13 years of hard core socialism that wrecked the country.
By the standards of the Marxist-Leninist Labour Party, Blair was a moderate! Although his Lady Macbeth-like wife had a lot of power and was an extreme hard leftist. In the words of Blair sidekick Peter Mandelson : ‘we sent out search parties for immigrants’.
In a stunning confirmation that the Blair and Brown governments deliberately engineered mass immigration, the former Cabinet Minister and spin doctor said New Labour sought out foreign workers. The policy was designed to
‘rub the Right’s nose in diversity’. It succeeded. Millions of primitive, unskilled, (illiterate even in their own language), clients of the socialist welfare state poured in from dysfunctional, hostile countries.
Returning to Thatcher’s UN comments, membership should be restricted to democratic countries. The power and influence enjoyed by malicious dictatorships like Russia and China in third world hellholes would then diminish.
As long as evil remains, we can never let our defenses down. Defenses meaning steel and defenses meaning action. Ask any boxer what happens when you drop your defenses for a second.
Some leaders in the West threw in the towel after the first punch.
Highly appropriate analogy redders. I was myself sucker punched on two different occasions before I learned my lesson.
In her speech, she said : ‘Tyrants and dictators have been born across the ages. They will continue to be born, and we must never let them achieve their aim of taking other people’s land or possessions. That is the task which our generation has.’
Just as she was the first to spot that Gorbachev was ‘someone we can do business with’ and passed that recommendation to Ron Reagan, we can be certain that she would have recommended taking very severe action against putlerstan to the US president had she been in power in 2014.

Two powerful people that took no crap from anyone. Sad to see the leaders of democracies today, fawning over the terrorist in the Kremlin, and other assorted despots around the world.
Man, we really need those two right now. Unbeatable!
Yeah, Trump and Boris don’t carry the same threat as Maggie and Ronnie. Putin would have been back in his cage long ago, had these two still been running their respective countries.
After WW2, there was a British occupation army of 80,000 troops in Germany, known as the BAOR (British army of the Rhine). It was armed with tactical nukes. Its role was changed from occupier to defender against the SU. Over the decades it was slimmed down to about 33,000, but was still a formidable force. After Thatch, it went down to 25,000. I am sure she would not have allowed that. Furthermore I believe that she would have sent a large contingent to Ukraine in 2014, with or without US support and the putinazis would have withdrawn. You can only imagine the howls of protest that would have come from the filthy quisling Franco-German-putler alliance!
In hindsight, the fall of the iron curtain was the worst thing that happened. It allowed all these pro Russian bastards a free ride into democratic countries, to spread their evil. At least they were contained behind the iron curtain to some extent.
Nothing can even begin to be done when confronting evil until you call it by name. These two did that and brought the world with them. Today it seems the democratic leaders are afraid to call evil by name and can’t even muster the first step.
Yeah, all we hear from the useless international organisations, is, both sides must show restraint, bla bla. It’s time the UN went the same way as the League of Nations, and was replaced by an organisation that wants to defend democracy, not appease dictators and terrorists.
Trump on Twitter says he is very happy Kim-Jung Un is well and alive. He was not seen on North Korean TV for over 2 weeks.
The world has not become a better place with Mrs. Thatcher’s demise. On the contrary; the West today has no leader that can hold a candle to her. None whatsoever.
