Experts from the International Institute for Strategic Studies have come to the conclusion that the number of tanks promised by the allies to Ukraine is not enough for a breakthrough. Kyiv will have to seek an increase in supplies .

According to The Guardian, London promised to transfer 14 Challanger 2 tanks to Kyiv, and Poland – 14 Leopard tanks. This equipment is too small for a successful offensive by the Ukrainian army.

Experts believe that about 100 tanks are needed for one offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but a lot also depends on the preparation, supply of spare parts and plans of Ukraine for the coming spring. At the same time, it is indicated that it is Leopard that can play a decisive role in the offensive.

All NATO countries reportedly have about 2,300 Leopard 2 tanks in total, with another 300 in storage. For the transfer of equipment to Ukraine, it is necessary that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz allow the export. APU fighters may need three to six weeks to master the Leopard 2.

However, the real test will be whether Kyiv develops a plan to effectively use tanks, combined with artillery to clear the way and infantry to protect armored vehicles and clear out fortified positions.

Tanks for Ukraine – what is known

Ukraine has long been waiting for Germany to approve the supply of Leopard tanks. Chancellor Olaf Scholz recently said that  Berlin “will not go through this alone .”

In turn, Warsaw approved the supply of Leopard 2. It is noted that Poland  will transfer a company  of military equipment to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In addition, Finland is also  ready to transfer tanks to  Ukraine, but as part of a common European coalition and if Germany approves.
