Russia’s frozen sovereign assets in the European Union should not be LOANED to Ukraine, leaving Ukraine to REPAY the loan to Russia in the future (!!!!!), but confiscated from Russia and transferred to Ukraine as as countermeasure for Moscow’s gross violations of international law.

The arguments that Russian assets fall under the protection of the doctrine of sovereign immunity must be resoundingly rejected. Nations of the free world must not pursue policies of insulating rogue regimes from international responsibility.

Instead, we must act resolutely to ensure that the interests of the aggressor state do not trump the preeminent interests of upholding international peace and security by providing support to the victim of its illegal aggression.

Our nations should not be havens for the wallets of rogue regimes, just like our financial systems are not designed to serve the interests of mafia or terrorist organizations.

Rogue regimes do not bring wealth for our societies, they inject corruption and create threats to our democracy and the rule of law.

The future of the rules-based international order depends on our collective will and uncompromising action to uphold it. Russia must pay for its criminal actions.

By confiscating Russian public assets, our nations will contribute to securing the urgent needs of bolstering Ukraine’s self-defence and recovery. Strong and triumphant Ukraine is essential for sustainable international peace in Europe.

Any risks associated with confiscation are infinitely outweighed by the danger of what is at stake if Ukraine is not victorious.

………….

Romanian MP and ex Economy Minister Claudiu Nasui says Romania should send troops to Ukraine. “[W]e should help Ukraine far more than we have up to now… It is in Romania’s fundamental interest for Ukraine to win this war.”

Absolutely so. Absolutely so.

  1. Europe is a very sick continent. The cowardice and downright stupidity prevailing there will be its downfall.

    • Feckless European govts “invested” their tax revenue into the socialist welfare state ponzi, instead of their military, now leaving them helpless to a nazi aggressor. They all thought that Nato would protect them but at the same time kept the most vulnerable : Ukraine and Georgia out. Dubya and Blair wanted them in, ruZZian agents Sarkozy and Merkel wanted them kept out.
Now there is an isolationist US president at least for the next 3+ years.
The UK can and must in double quick time develop its own independent tactical nukes and share them with Ukraine.
With our new Ukraine-UK 100 year partnership should come an integration of our armed forces. Together we would be able to defeat the putinaZis.

  2. “Russia’s frozen sovereign assets in the European Union should not be LOANED to Ukraine, leaving Ukraine to REPAY the loan to Russia in the future”

Why can’t it be called a loan, with the expected repayment to come from ruSSia’s reparations to Ukraine for all the damage they caused? That way, even if ruSSia doesn’t agree to reparations, the EU could strike that much off the books and call it partial payment.
