This is the first joint visit of the leaders of four countries to Ukraine and is unprecedented.

The leaders of Great Britain, France, Germany, and Poland will arrive in Kyiv today for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to Reuters , at the meeting, European leaders will discuss a US and European proposal for a 30-day ceasefire, which, if the Kremlin refuses, would lead to the joint imposition of new sanctions, a French diplomatic source said.

The visit of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk is the first joint visit of the leaders of the four countries to Ukraine.

“Together with the United States, we call on Russia to agree to a full and unconditional 30-day ceasefire to create space for negotiations for a just and lasting peace,” the European leaders said in a joint statement.

On the eve of the summit, the US Embassy in Kyiv warned of a “potentially significant” air strike in the coming days and recommended that its citizens be prepared to seek shelter in the event of air raid sirens.

As the publication noted, the four foreign leaders will meet with Zelensky on Saturday morning and are also expected to pay tribute to Ukrainian soldiers killed in the war at a memorial in central Kyiv.

They are expected to hold a virtual meeting with other leaders to update them on progress made in creating a future coalition of air, land, sea and “regenerative” forces that will help revive the Ukrainian military after any peace deal, Downing Street in the UK said.

Announcing the visit, Macron posted a joint photo of the four, accompanied by the caption “We are on our way to Kyiv. For the sake of Ukraine, for the sake of Europe” in French, English, German, and Polish.
