Three non-profit organizations from Germany declared undesirable in Russia

The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation recognized three non-profit organizations from Germany as undesirable in Russia, Interfax reports.

We are talking about Forum Russischsprachiger Europaer eV (“Forum of Russian-speaking Europeans”), Zentrum fur die Liberale Moderne GmbH (“Center for liberal modernity”) and Deutsch-Russischer Austausch eV (“German-Russian exchange”).

The Prosecutor General’s Office considered that the activities of these organizations “pose a threat to the foundations of the constitutional order and security of the Russian Federation,” Interfax quotes a statement from the supervisory agency.

The Ministry of Justice will have to add these organizations to the list of undesirable ones, in which there are now 31 participants. This is the first time that organizations from Germany will be included in this list .

The Law on “Unwanted Organizations” was passed in 2015. The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation may recognize a foreign or international non-governmental organization as “undesirable” if it decides that its activities threaten the foundations of the constitutional order, defense capability or security of Russia. For participation and cooperation with “undesirable organizations”, liability is stipulated up to criminal.
