The draft of the new Constitution of Belarus will be ready in 2021, and at the beginning of next year it will be submitted to a national referendum. This was stated by Alexander Lukashenko, speaking on February 11 at the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly in the Palace of the Republic in Minsk.

According to him, for the new Constitution “it will be necessary to reformat many laws, change the legislative base.” He also spoke about the plan for the redistribution of powers within the power vertical, which is already on the table.

“The constitution must be changed, because the powers that the head of state have today are very difficult for a person,” Lukashenka said.

He also outlined the main conditions for his departure from power: “There is peace, order in the country, no protest actions, not turning the country upside down, expressing an opinion within the law. The second condition: if it turns out that the wrong people come to power, and they have different views, we will write in the second paragraph that not a single hair from you, the supporters of the current president, can fall. Therefore, I proposed to make the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly a constitutional body … It should be a stabilizer for the transition period. “https://t.me/rbc_news/24831?embed=1

In August 2020, presidential elections were held in Belarus, which, according to the official data of the CEC, was won by Alexander Lukashenko for the sixth time in a row. The opposition, led by presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, and after her, many Western countries did not recognize the voting results. Mass protest actions began in the country, which periodically continue to this day.
