American actor and screenwriter Liev Schreiber, a UNITED24 ambassador, visited the aftermath of a deadly Russian strike in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district after spending the night of August 19–20 in the Ukrainian capital during another large-scale Russian attack, the UNITED24 fundraising platform reported on August 21.
Schreiber visited the site where a nine-story residential building was hit, killing people inside. He showed his audience the destruction left behind and reflected on what he had witnessed.
The actor said what disturbed him most was the nature of the sites damaged during the attack. Along with the residential building, a children’s hospital and a school were also damaged.
“I mean, it’s so clearly an attack designed to hit civilians,” Schreiber said.
Schreiber also highlighted Ukraine’s urgent need for missile defense as Russian ballistic and other missile attacks continue to threaten cities far from the front line.
“That’s something America used to provide. Hopefully, we can figure out how to get that programme going again,” he said.
Schreiber has visited Ukraine several times since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion and serves as an ambassador for UNITED24, Ukraine’s official fundraising platform.
During his previous visits, the actor has met Ukrainians affected by the war and supported humanitarian initiatives. He has also begun to understand some Ukrainian.
