“Let’s warm ourselves with the fire of Russian refineries”: the Armed Forces of Ukraine responded to Russia’s threats to freeze Ukraine, the network exploded with memes

08/14/2026

The Russian side has once again threatened to strike Ukraine in the winter and announced its intention to attack facilities related to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, thus rejecting the possibility of ending the war. The Ukrainian side responded to these threats ironically, and online users are actively creating photo memes about possible attacks.

Social media is already joking that we will have to “warm up” with the flames of Russian refineries. The funniest memes were collected by OBOZ.UA.

Where it all began

On Friday, August 14, the Russian Defense Ministry published a photo of the “Shaheeds.” The Russians captioned the photo “you will freeze in the winter,” thus threatening Ukraine with massive shelling, with the aim of destroying the energy sector and plunging Ukrainians into the cold.

Threats from the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Our state did not hesitate to respond, in particular, the Strategic Communications Department of the Chief of Staff of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasized that our citizens will receive warmth from the “fire of Russian refineries”, attacks on which will obviously continue.

Other interesting memes also appeared online, in which Ukrainians hinted that Russia itself still has to survive until winter, because the long-range strikes of the Defense Forces are causing considerable trouble for the aggressor country, which is currently experiencing a fuel shortage.

At the same time, our people reminded the Russian Federation that Ukraine also has its own weapons, including missiles, and is capable of countering the “Shaheeds” with interceptor drones.

As a reminder, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia is not ready for a ceasefire on the front line. According to him, a ceasefire is possible only under the condition of a “long-term, secure and stable settlement,” by which the Kremlin traditionally means the fulfillment of its well-known ultimatums.

As OBOZ.UA reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously stated that Ukraine would continue to expand long-range strikes on Russian facilities. He stressed that after the destruction of an oil facility in Tobolsk, located more than 2,500 kilometers from Ukraine, for the first time in history Russia was effectively left without a secure strategic rear.

  1. These memes prove that the Ukrainian people are not easily scared. The are, after all, not Western politicians.
