The leaders of eight Nordic and Baltic states have warned against peace negotiations with Russia without taking into account Ukraine’s position and Europe’s security.

This is stated in a joint statement of the countries, Interfax-Ukraine reports , Censor.NET informs .

“We firmly stand by our position of unwavering support for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Ukraine in the face of Russia’s illegal aggressive war,” the statement said.

The leaders of the states welcome “President Trump’s initiative to help end this war and lay the foundations for a just and lasting peace that will ensure the security of Ukraine and the stability of Europe.”

“We stand ready to facilitate this work through diplomatic means, continuing to provide Ukraine with substantial military and financial support. We will continue to support and enforce restrictive measures against the Russian Federation. Peace will only be achieved through a combination of decisive diplomacy, unwavering support for Ukraine, and sustained pressure on the Russian Federation to end its illegal war,” the statement said.

In addition, the countries emphasized that “international borders cannot be changed by force.”

“Negotiations can only take place under conditions of a ceasefire. President Zelensky has clearly stated that Ukraine is ready for peace negotiations on the condition of full respect for its sovereignty… No decisions on Ukraine without Ukraine, no decisions on Europe without Europe,” the statement said.

The Nordic-Baltic Eight emphasized that they will remain on Ukraine’s side, united in their intentions and resolute in protecting our security.

The Nordic-Baltic Eight is a regional cooperation format that includes Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden.

It was previously reported that European leaders fear that Trump and Putin may independently conclude an agreement, which they will then try to impose on Ukraine.

Recall that the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin will take place on August 15 in the US state of Alaska.
