Details: Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Latvia amended its Immigration Law, tightening the conditions for Russian citizens to stay in its territory.
Russians had to apply for EU long-term resident status, demonstrate knowledge of the Latvian language at the A2 level, and undergo security checks and questioning by 30 June 2025 in order to remain in the country legally.
Most of the approximately 30,000 Russians complied with the requirements, about 2,600 voluntarily left Latvia, and 841 Russian citizens did not manage to submit the necessary documents on time.
They were informed of the need to leave Latvia by 13 October – after this date, the stay of such people in the country becomes illegal, the Latvian Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs told Politico.
Among other things, these Russians will no longer be able to use social services – for example, receive subsidies and pensions.
Background:
- Latvia recently reported criminal proceedings against a Russian citizen caught illegally crossing the state border.
- Latvia also banned the employment or provision of services in critical infrastructure to citizens of Russia and Belarus.

As Caolan said yesterday. Every russian needs rounding up and sent back to the shithole they love so much.
Indeed. The West still has to learn that its openness is not always a good thing, and sometimes it’s a grave mistake.
