Latvia delivers first Patria 6×6 armored vehicles to Ukraine

The first Patria 6×6 armored personnel carriers promised by Latvia have arrived in Ukraine, Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa announced during her visit to Kyiv on July 15 following a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

Shmyhal confirmed that both sides also agreed to strengthen cooperation between Ukrainian and Latvian manufacturers, particularly in defense production, innovation, and joint development of military equipment and drones.

On July 1, Latvia’s government approved the transfer of 42 Patria 6×6 vehicles to Ukraine, along with spare parts, weapons, and ammunition, according to Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds.

Spruds emphasized that Latvia will train Ukrainian personnel, equip the vehicles, and ensure their timely delivery. He added that Latvia’s military support for Ukraine will continue and is expected to reach 0.25% of the country’s GDP in both 2025 and 2026.

The Patria 6×6 is an armored personnel carrier originally developed by Finnish company Patria to enhance troop mobility and protection. It can transport up to 10 soldiers, is powered by a 400-horsepower Scania diesel engine, can reach speeds over 100 km/h (62 mph), and has a range of up to 700 km (435 miles).
