Due to the lack of workers, the Russian government can involve convicts under light economic articles, as well as 50,000 workers from North Korea, to perform construction work.

This was stated by the Vice Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Marat Husnullin, RBC reports .

“We are really keeping records and analyzing all labor personnel and we see that so far we do not have enough resources. And we are looking at various options for attracting personnel, including North Korea,” said a Russian official.

“In this situation, especially for the development of the Far East, North Korea is a good option. And we are now working on this topic politically. If we attract 20-50 thousand (builders, – ed.) – that’s good,” added the Russian vice- prime minister

According to him, the government of the Russian Federation also plans to involve those convicted of light economic offenses to work on the construction site.

Husnullin explained that the government wants such prisoners to apply for a transfer to correctional facilities and not lose their right to parole.

“Prisoners didn’t really go to work, because if they went to construction work, they couldn’t get parole. Now, a legislative amendment has been submitted to the Ministry of Justice on our initiative,” Husnullin explained.

In his opinion, after the adoption of this amendment, the prisoners will willingly go to construction.
