Kremlin says that it knew nothing about Europe’s warning about russian fighter jets

Moscow has denied information from Western media that European diplomats allegedly gave russia a warning with a threat to shoot down fighter jets in case of further violations of NATO airspace.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that she did not understand what the Bloomberg article was about and called such reports “fiction” and “incitement.” According to her, publications by Western media are created specifically to reinforce the “russophobic and aggressive rhetoric of European countries.”

Bloomberg, citing sources, reported that diplomats from Britain, Germany and France expressed concern during a meeting in Moscow after the incident on September 19, when three russian planes violated Estonian airspace. The European side believes that this was done intentionally and warned Moscow against further provocations.

According to the agency, the russian representative justified the incident by saying that the flights were allegedly a response to Ukrainian attacks on Crimea, which, according to the Kremlin, would have been impossible without NATO support.

Recall, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte previously supported Donald Trump’s position on the need to shoot down russian planes in the event of a violation of the Alliance’s airspace.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on September 19, three russian MiG-31 fighters, which can be equipped with Kinzhal missiles, flew into Estonian airspace.

They were in the country’s sky for 12 minutes until NATO aircraft were scrambled to intercept them.

Also on September 19, two russian fighter jets flew in close proximity to the oil and gas platform of the Polish company Petrobaltic in the Baltic Sea.
