The press secretary of the Russian president emphasized that the situation around Greenland is a matter of bilateral relations between the United States and Denmark.

Russia is closely monitoring the developments around Greenland and the intention of newly elected US President Donald Trump to gain control over the island.

This was stated by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, Russian media reports .

“This is a matter of bilateral relations between the United States and Denmark, but Moscow is closely monitoring the development of the situation,” he said.

Peskov noted that if the fate of Greenland depends on the opinion of the island’s residents, then we must also remember the opinion of people from the “new regions of Russia.”

“We need to show the same respect for the opinions of these people (from the occupied territories of Ukraine – UNIAN),” he added.

The Russian president’s press secretary also said during a conversation with journalists that Europe is allegedly afraid to respond decisively to Trump’s statements about Greenland, so politicians are using cautious wording.

In addition, the pro-Kremlin news agency TASS  added that Peskov said that “the Arctic is in the sphere of national and strategic interests of the Russian Federation,” commenting on US claims to Canada and Greenland.

  1. The war will be over soon. Agreement nearly reached. Trump gets Greenland, and Putin instead with Trumps permission gets occupied Ukraine. If Trump takes Canada too, Putin gets whole Ukraine. The deal of the century!
