LIVE Trump: Zelensky hasn’t even read my peace plan

Donald Trump claims that Volodymyr Zelensky hasn’t even read his peace plan, and is disappointed in the Ukrainian leader because he isn’t ready to sign a deal to end the war.

The US President suggested that his Ukrainian counterpart is holding up the talks from moving forward, saying: “I’m a little bit disappointed that President Zelensky hasn’t yet read the proposal, that was as of a few hours ago. His people love it, but he hasn’t.

”Russia is, I believe, fine with it, but I’m not sure that Zelenskyy’s fine with it. His people love It. But he isn’t ready.”

It was not clear which version of the peace plan Mr Trump was referring to.

The original document had 28 points and was seen as tilted heavily in Moscow’s favour, with a cap on the size of Ukraine’s army, no prospect of them joining Nato and the reintroduction of Russia to the global stage.

A revised 20-point version was seen as more palatable to Kyiv, but that was apparently not signed off by Russia after 5-hour talks between Donald Trump’s envoys and Vladimir Putin last week.

Today, Mr Zelensky will appear at Downing Street alongside key European allies Sir Keir Starmer, Britain’s Prime Minister, Emmanuel Macron, France’s President and Freidrich Merz, Germany’s Chancellor to discuss the negotiations.

Yvette Cooper, Britain’s foreign secretary, is expected in Washington today, where she will meet Marco Rubio, her American counterpart.

Announcing Ms Cooper’s visit, the Foreign Office in London said: “The UK and US will reaffirm their commitment to reaching a peace deal in Ukraine.”

Moscow has meanwhile continued to strike Ukraine, wounding at least nine people overnight Sunday to Monday, according to Ukrainian officials.
