Kovalenko: the new defense minister will not be able to “revive” the Russian army. There is simply nothing left to revive

05/17/2024 – Translated from Ukrainian via Google and OFP

A complete surprise for many was the personnel reshuffle in the Russian Ministry of Defense, in which the seemingly unsinkable Sergei Shoigu was replaced by the little-known Andrei Belousov. However, they immediately began to say that this man is a professional economist and who better than him to raise the Russian army and defense industry.

But is this so, and will Belousov be able to do this in the current realities? Let’s figure it out.

Belousov and drones

Andrei Belousov was remembered by the Russian audience primarily for his statement that almost every drone produced in Russia consists of 80-90% foreign spare parts. For the mind of the average consumer of fast food information, blinkered by Rospropaganda, such information was shocking, but it was the truth.

However, telling the truth and earning the sympathy of the audience is one thing, but influencing the situation and correcting it is completely different. And no matter how the cybernetic economist Andrei Belousov lamented the foreign components in Russian UAVs, the situation has not changed at all since the day of his statement. And she couldn’t change.

For example, one of the most popular drones in the Russian Armed Forces, the Orlan-10, is equipped with a Japanese SAITO engine, a PTN78020 starter-generator from the American Texas Instruments Incorporated, pressure sensors from Freescale Semiconductor, an HMC6352 compass from Honeywell, an RF3110 transmitter from the German Municom, as well as and the DP1205-C915 receiver is also from the German AnyLink. Next: the telemetry transmission module is American from ATxmega256A3 from Microchip, the French-Italian flight controller is from STMicroelectronics, and the GLONASS/GPS/QZSS receiver from the Swiss company U-blox is LEA-6N.

Orlan-10 drone

Another example is the Zastava UAV , which is a copy of the Israeli Bird-Eye 400. It is for this reason that this Russian drone contains more than 50% of chips and electronic elements from the Israeli Elbit Systems and Data Links. The GLONASS/GPS/QZSS receiver in Zastava is from the Swiss company U-blox, the engine is from the German Hacker Motor, the electronics are from the American Vweb, and the autopilot is from the Spanish UAV Navigation.

Actually, just to bring the production of the same Orlan-10 to a completely closed internal cycle from scratch, it is necessary to establish production of all these components in Russia. However, the sanctioned Russian Federation simply does not have the technical and technological capabilities to produce them.

That is, using the example of Belousov’s favorite topic – UAVs – it is obvious that there will not be any fundamental changes in the production of these products. But perhaps this will be implemented in other industries – for example, in tank building?

Belousov and the military-industrial complex

Today, the Russian military-industrial complex mainly restores military equipment inherited from the times of the USSR. The supply of completely new units of equipment to the combat zone is about 10-15% of the total quantity, including tanks.

Russia produces no more than a company’s worth of completely new tanks produced from scratch per month, and this is the T-90M Proryv. The remaining modifications of the T-72, T-80, T-62 are all restored Soviet heritage. Even the T-80 tank, which is regularly unloaded for the database zone from Omsktransmash, is not produced at this enterprise, since there are no complete assembly lines left there. Like machines, like molds, etc.

T-80 tanks

To resume tank production, it is necessary to resume technical and technological processes that depend on at least thirty thousand tools.

And this problem concerns not only the production of tanks, but almost every industry.

Armored combat vehicles (AFVs) – restoration, modernization, repair and within 2-3 battalion sets of new products per month.

Artillery – the absence of the technological possibility of mass, serial production of barrels of all calibers for new artillery systems, but the presence of a massive restoration of old Soviet artillery.

Aviation – the limit of production of new products within a squadron per year.

After the collapse of the USSR, the Russian military-industrial complex progressively degraded and fell apart – over the course of thirty years. No evolution or development occurred; technological processes, the creation of which at one time took decades, were irretrievably lost.

It is not possible to revive production from scratch, no matter what kind of leader is put in charge, and Andrei Belousov will not be able to radically change the situation. Although what he can really be useful is by improving the corruption schemes he inherited from Sergei Shoigu, but certainly not by reviving the Russian army. There is simply nothing left to revive.

  1. Mafia land will have to change fundamentally, from bottom to top, create favorable conditions for talented people, get rid of corruption (most at least), and invest huge sums of money, and not to mention lots of time to achieve independence from foreign sources for the many components that it needs to produce its murder machines. This is not going to happen in the medium future. Maybe … MAYBE … in some distant future. Maybe. But by then, we’ll all be dead.

    • I think this guy is going to be used as a scapegoat when the russian economy goes tits up. Putler removes his buddy out of the firing line, so any blame for military defeat is blamed on the economist. As he stated, every ruble is going to the war effort, meaning mafia land will collapse in a heap, as we saw last winter.

      • Yeah, that could be. The shithole sure has great expectations from an economy smaller than Italy’s.

  2. Nice to see all these components made in the West are helping to destroy Ukraine. Sanctions really are pathetic. I can see a scenario of the US at war with russia, where US soldiers are being killed with US technology.

    • Izlamonazi Iran has been sanctioned for decades. The sanctions achieved precisely nothing.
Same with putlerstan. But real sanctions WOULD work. It’s never been tried.
A permanent and comprehensive diplomatic, trade, travel, cultural and financial block on the CRINK’s would achieve much.
In addition: 10 years jail time and seizing of all assets of all sanctions-busters.

      • The sanctions never work because there never is the will to make them work. They’ve always been useless … smoke and mirrors.

    • If this keeps up and mafia land wins, this will become reality one day. With leaders like Biden or – God forbid, Trump – we are on a sinking ship.

    • Along with greedy companies, rashists get this stuff black market or through 3rd 4th ect ect channels. Even with loopholes closed, they have learned from their iranazi buddies as Sir Scradge mention have been doing back alley smuggling for decades.
