Pyongyang – The North Korean regime plans to execute 30 local leaders after parts of the country were hit by severe flooding, which has killed 4,000 people, South Korean media reported.

The 30 officials are suspected of corruption and ‘failure to perform their duties’. In the Stalinist hermit kingdom, they could face the death penalty for this. It is not yet known when the local leaders will be executed.
Executions are not uncommon in the country. Before the coronavirus pandemic, there were an average of ten public executions per year. Last year, 100 executions were said to have been carried out.
