Servicemen of the First Presidential Operational Brigade named after Hetman Petro Doroshenko, together with employees of the National Police of Ukraine, took the Kiev hydroelectric power station under heavy guard .
This was reported on the website of the National Guard.
It is noted that the main task of law enforcement officers is to ensure reliable protection of the facility, as well as to prevent unauthorized infiltrations of enemy sabotage groups in order to carry out provocations to destabilize the situation both in the region and in the state.
“Given the challenges of today and all the responsibility that is entrusted to the units of the National Guard of Ukraine, the most experienced servicemen of the First Presidential Brigade have been selected for service. Among them there are guardsmen who served in the JFO area and have combat experience. The soldiers are motivated and ready to work together to ensure reliable protection and uninterrupted operation of the hydroelectric power station with the police,” said Colonel Oleg Duda, deputy head of the Northern Kiev Territorial Administration of NSU.
Law enforcement officers carry out preventive measures, in particular, check the documents of persons and vehicles, and also patrol the area adjacent to the HPP.
The threat of a new Russian attack
In recent months, Russia has amassed more than 100,000 troops around Ukraine, whom the West fears it could deploy in a full-scale attack.
On February 15, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the withdrawal of part of the troops to the places of permanent deployment. However, neither NATO nor the United States confirm signs of de-escalation in the Russian-Ukrainian border area.
Moreover, the NATO Secretary General announced the build-up of the offensive positions of the Russians along the Ukrainian border: “… we have not seen any withdrawal of Russian forces. And of course, this contradicts the report of real diplomatic efforts. The future will show whether there will be a Russian withdrawal. We are very carefully monitoring what Russia is doing in and around Ukraine. We have seen that they have increased the number of troops and more troops on the way. Russia maintains the potential for a full-scale invasion of Ukraine without any warning time.”
On the evening of February 15, US President Joe Biden, commenting on the crisis in Eastern Europe, said that “Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is still possible.”
