According to the EU High Representative, Russia is trying to buy time.
EU High Representative Kaia Kallas does not believe that Russia is interested in peace talks with Ukraine in Turkey. She said this on the sidelines of the Copenhagen Democracy Summit in the Danish capital, DW reports .
“They continue to bomb Ukraine. If they were interested in peace, they could stop it immediately,” she noted.
According to her, more than two months have passed since Ukraine agreed to an “unconditional ceasefire.”
“Russia is clearly playing games, trying to buy time, hoping that time is on their side. We do not see any positive efforts or good signs from their side,” the head of European diplomacy emphasized.
Commenting on a possible meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia, Kallas stressed that it would be a “good step” if they really sat down at the negotiating table.
“But I don’t think he, Putin, would dare,” she noted.
