Such statements were a sharp escalation of the situation on the part of the US president.
US President Donald Trump has threatened new strikes on Iran’s oil export hub on the island of Khark and called on allies to send warships to secure the Strait of Hormuz, Reuters reports .
According to Trump, US strikes “completely destroyed” a large part of the island.
“We might hit it a few more times just for fun,” he told NBC News.

According to journalists, such statements were a sharp escalation of the situation by the US president, who had previously reported that America was only targeting military facilities on the island of Kharq. Three sources also told Reuters that the presidential administration had rejected attempts by Middle Eastern allies to start negotiations.
The report adds that Tehran’s ability to block shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world’s oil passes, poses a complex challenge for the United States and its allies. Energy prices are soaring as the war causes the largest disruption to oil supplies in history, and the energy crisis is likely to continue.
“The countries of the world that receive oil through the Strait of Hormuz must take care of this passage, and we will help – A LOT! The United States will also coordinate its actions with these countries so that everything happens quickly, smoothly and well,” Trump assured in his post on the social network.
At the same time, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that his country would respond to any attack on its energy facilities.
