Johnson on strikes on Russia: The current authorizations for the armed forces are not enough

Washington should stop “micromanaging the war effort in Ukraine,” he said.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson believes that the current authorizations for the Armed Forces to use US weapons on the territory of Russia are not enough.

This is reported by ” Voice of America “. According to Johnson, Washington should stop “micromanaging the war effort in Ukraine.” He plans to raise the issue in a conversation with the Biden administration.

“I have already spoken about it, and I will speak again. We will have conversations with the White House about it,” the speaker said in a comment to the publication.

Permission to strike Russia with American weapons

On May 30, Politico wrote that the administration of US President Joe Biden secretly gave Ukraine permission to launch strikes on Russian territory using weapons provided by the United States. Currently, it is allowed to hit targets near the borders of the Kharkiv region.

In a few days, the British military analyst Phillips O’Brien said that the US permission to strike Russia with American weapons is already affecting the situation on the battlefield , in particular, it is destroying Russian plans to attack Kharkiv.

In addition, at the beginning of June, the representative of the White House, John Kirby, emphasized that Ukraine  was not limited in the right to shoot down warplanes in Russian airspace , which pose a potential threat, in particular, release guided aerial bombs on Ukrainian cities.

  1. Is this the same Johnson who hold on the weapon delivery’s to Ukraine for six months?

    • I always thought that Johnson was in favor of Ukraine but it became political to get something done on the border. Prior to that he wanted an audit of stuff going to Ukraine. Everything I saw read and heard about Johnson is that he was caught between a rock and a hard spot and trying to maneuver. I’m not making excuses for him just stuff I’ve heard.

  2. So, it seems that Mike Johnson does not consider the orange baboon to be his boss anymore and does what he feels is the right thing to do. I appreciate that.

    • I wish he did but it seems the republican leadership is just sucking up to the orange baboon. I know Johnson is a good guy but then he became a politician and sold his soul to someone. Not being a politician or someone who doesn’t need power I have no idea what he is going through

      • Well, Mike seems to have crossed the valley of darkness when he was still a subject of the orange one, and has stepped out into the light, helping Ukraine, and this is what matters.

        • Sir OFP there isn’t a politician out there that I would trust. They always have their own agenda

    • What has happened and many here have completely misinterpreted is Republicans have been complaining about slow delivery of weapons, no audits, etc. leading to another “forever war”. Some here considered that as though the Republicans didn’t support Ukraine. Now that we know they do, it is interesting to see some here throw their shoulders and necks out of joint thinking the Republicans changed their positions which isn’t the case at all. But I’m glad they’re finally paying attention to the truth. If only they had listened to me months ago. We could have saved half of our audience that left too.

      • Sir RSM, I wouldn’t make that kind of statement. Greene Vance, etc. they’re paid by the Kremlin…period and yes they and the entire freedom caucus hate UKRAINE.

      • Contrary to the trench you have embedded yourself in, there are still several Republicans whom not only oppose aid to Ukraine but are outright hostile to Ukraine. It is not some stunning revelation that some Republicans actually want to do their job for the American people and understand what us at stake in Ukraine as a country, a people, and a distinct culture, as well as fathoming the effects on the U.S. and the world. Some however recent supporters are only doing so as a matter of politics to gain points, but we will see how it sifts out in the end.
As far as the audits they were already being done. I agree with you in that there has been slow approval and slow delivery.
As for the truth many moderates and independents have been driven from this site by coarse banter and outright hostility as well. It’s a double edged sword Sir RSM.

        • Yeah, we got political and a lot of Ukraine supporters think like me that politics should stay out of it. Having said that, someone needs to respond to the unsubstantiated shit that has been thrown about here. Don’t blame me, I’m outnumbered here. I’m just trying to represent the chunk that is leaving because of the TDS crowd.
And there is no trench, those with any credibility remaining will find out who has been lying to them, soon, just as they are now. I don’t hold any grudges, I just wish things would go back as they were before, when Ukraine was the priority, not personal politics.
I wish those on the hard Left would treat me like I treated you Sir Bill. I knew you were on the Left but I gave you a big voice here anyway….because it was about Ukraine, not RSM.

          • I’ve wished also that we wouldn’t have to talk so much politics, but it still does play a big part in how the war in Ukraine started, continues, and will eventually play out.
As I’ve previously stated to you I’m not a so called leftist as you think. We should be able to disagree on points without being disagreeable.
At times you have leveled into me and others so it’s not making sense to me that you think you are treating people as you wish to be treated. I have tried to keep primary focus on our mutual support for Ukraine. As well as doing some editing. If you regret that decision, or feel I have over stepped bounds then feel free to revoke my status. I try to post apart from my feelings on the matters but when things come up in chat I will debate, discuss and yes even argue.

            • I usually try to live by the Golden Rule but I fail sometimes when I see such ugliness and hate. As the other pop phrase goes, “Evil thrives when good men sit and do nothing.” Perhaps we can do better Sir Bill, for Ukraine’s sake. I’ll take the Right and you take the Left.

              • Dude I’m not on the left, exactly what fricken policy or stance that I have makes you continue to think that? But yes I agree that we can all do better for Ukraine’s sake. I understand you have your position on things. I will have to come back to this.

          • I do “respond to the unsubstantiated shit” and outright lies that have been posted.

  3. Thank you RSM for your ongoing efforts to present an unpopular (to most of the commenters) viewpoint on this site. We all should really try to focus on what unites all of us, – support for Ukraine.

I also think that part of what may be going on with Speaker Johnson may be related to his relatively new access to very high level and generally unshared intelligence (except to the Gang of Eight in the House) that he did not have access to prior to being Speaker.

I know this is so unpopular on this site, but I think some of you with tds may have a rude awakening on how supportive a new administration will be for Ukraine after November. Of course I may be wrong. I have been more than once or twice in my life.

    Time will tell.

  4. For those suggesting that Mike Johnson hasn’t changed, let’s not forget that he had an “F – Very Poor” rating on Ukraine when he was elected Speaker. It looks like he’s been upgraded to a “D – Poor” in the current list, which can be found at: https://gopforukraine.com/ukraine-report-card/

That’s not a mis-impression by those in this group; that’s a rating based on his votes and statements. (A rating by the group “Republicans For Ukraine”.)

And of course people here have been very clear that not all Republicans are MAGAt morons who hate Ukraine. But it would be just as wrong to suggest that Johnson’s turnabout means that all Republicans now support Ukraine as it would be to suggest that all Republicans are opposed to Ukraine.
