House Speaker Mike Johnson is facing new demands from Democrats to include humanitarian aid for various global hotspots in a foreign aid package, including Ukraine .
According to Axios, eight House Democrats, led by Representative Susan Wild, called on Johnson to include at least $9.16 billion in aid to countries experiencing brutal conflicts and other humanitarian crises.
In addition to Ukraine and Gaza, the letter calls for assistance to Sudan, Haiti, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Venezuela and Lebanon.
That complicates the speaker’s shaky path to aid Israel and Ukraine as he tries to balance competing demands from across the ideological spectrum.
“By abdicating this responsibility, our country will allow unstable regions around the world to become even more unstable, leading to increased threats to our security,” the lawmakers wrote.
Democrats are not enthusiastic about Johnson’s proposals to structure aid to Ukraine in the form of a loan and include in the bill the lifting of a pause in liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports and the seizure of frozen Russian assets.
“If you put LNG in there, it’s a huge poison pill. I’m not sure people are going to swallow that pill on the Democrats’ side,” the House Democrat said.
“He’s boxed in,” the congressman said of Johnson. “He goes one way, loses votes, goes the other way, loses votes, and every day there are people who talk about kicking him out. It doesn’t matter which way he goes… one with alligators, the other with with piranhas. It’s a nightmare version of adventure to choose from,” he added.

My biggest headache is a question that keeps torturing me for a whole decade, there’s russians fighting Putin in Belgorod, in the far East, but where is the fucking ukrainian resistance in Donyetsk, Luhansk and Crimea??? Are our brothers and sisters cowards or what?! These regions are populated by ukrainians!?
In temporarily occupied Ukrainian Crimea, there is still a very active resistance. Not sure at what levels it still occurs in the Donetsk or Luhansk, though not as publicized, it’s highly likely there are still brave men and women risking life and limb to resist the rashists there even to this day.
