The Government of Japan donated a batch of 101 vehicles for the needs of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
The Embassy of Japan in Ukraine reported on this.
The published photos depict Toyota HMV, Mitsubishi Type 73 Kogata off-road vehicles and PC-065B tracked engineering vehicles.
The vehicles reportedly arrived in Poland on June 5, 2024 and were then transferred to Ukraine.

As previously reported, this transfer of vehicles was announced back in May 2023 during a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
Toyota HMV
Toyota Mega Cruiser is a Japanese off-road vehicle that is a direct analog of the American HMMWV.
The military version of the SUV has the BXD10 index, and the HMV (High Mobility Vehicle) index can also be found.

The military version is equipped with a 4.1-liter 15B-FTE turbocharged diesel engine that develops approximately 155 horsepower.
The carrying capacity of the vehicle is about one ton.
Mitsubishi Type 73 Kogata
The 2nd generation Mitsubishi Type 73 SUV was developed based on the civilian 1996 Mitsubishi Pajero. Currently, the SUV is manufactured at two Mitsubishi plants in Gifu and Aichi.
A 2.8-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder 4M40 engine with an output of 125 horsepower was used in the vehicle in 1996-2014. Starting in 2014, a 2.4-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder 4N15 engine with the same output of 125 hp was installed.

Transmission – 4-speed, automatic, all-wheel drive, top speed – 125 km/h, payload – 440 kg.
The vehicle can be equipped with a Minimi machine gun or a 12.7-mm Browning machine gun. As part of the Ground Self-Defense Force, the SUV is used as a headquarters vehicle for commanders and officers.
PC-065B
These vehicles are used by the engineering units of the Ground Self-Defense Force to equip positions, clear territories, and transport various cargoes.
It is possible to install a manipulator for lifting various loads.

The vehicle has a top speed of 20 km/h and a payload of 3 tons. Thanks to the use of composite off-road tracks, the dump truck can overcome difficult off-road conditions.
Due to its small dimensions and weight of 5 tons, it can be transported by 3-ton Type 73 trucks.
Good news. I’m not sure if Japan has ever sent military equipment before. These are good, high-quality vehicles.

Nevertheless, Japan has provided €7 bn worth of aid to Ukraine, making them the sixth biggest donor.

Well, Mr. Facts, you know that arms export laws, based on modern Japan’s pacifistic policy, stand in the way. Nothing that may kill RuSSians can be delivered. However, there’s lots of concern there now about the dusturbing deterioration of the security situation, so that may change. This delivery isa step on the way. 🙂
I am a bit taken aback to see people asking for more from Japan as if they were pressing a button knowing that Japan has gone through major crises (Fukushima, earthquake, economic) and must, for its own sake, face the threats of China in international waters and continued threats from North Korea.
There are several fronts that are being worked out in the world.
In addition, Japan is experiencing an unprecedented structural and demographic crisis which threatens their model and their survival. The yen at its lowest in 34 years, 1/3 population is over 65 years, public debt is 263 per cent of GDP (largest debt to GDP ratio in the world)! 263! We should not expect showers of help in the future in my humble opinion.
Let us instead denounce the inappropriate political attitude of my country which is reluctant to do what is necessary when it could do much more: Switzerland.
Well, other countries also have problems, most even quite similar to Japan’s. I know that Japan is far, far away from this war, but is it really? If the mafiosi win in Ukraine, don*t you think that this will give a tremendous boost in bat virus land and fat boy land to act MORE aggressively, and thus endanger Japan even more? IMHO, every penny that Japan spends on Ukraine is well invested money.
A wise general once said, it’s always better to win a war away from your own home. This is Japan’s chance to stop one from even happening. At least for the near and medium future.
Certainlya valuable delivery, those Type 73 vehicles, but the Type 74 tank, hundreds of which have been mothballed recently, would even be more welcome.
