Rome is about to hand over six of its Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzers

Italy is preparing to transfer to Ukraine several units of German Panzerhaubitze 2000 and RZSV M270, and a considerable number of older M109 howitzers.
This was reported by the Italian publication La Repubblica with reference to its own sources.
The Italian side plans to transfer two of its 18 M270 installations – the predecessor of the tracked HIMARS, with 12 missiles. Rome is also set to transfer six of its Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzers, joining the Netherlands and Germany. The publication noted that the decision on the transfer of weapons was made under the government of Mario Draghi.
Also, one of the last decisions of the Draghi government was about M109 self-propelled howitzers. During the Cold War, Italy produced hundreds of such howitzers, somewhat updating the American model, and in the 2000s began to remove them from service. The publication noted that it may be about the transfer “from 20 to 30 units, although the exact number remains a complete secret.” Before being sent to Ukraine, the weapon will undergo a technical inspection.
In addition, the Italian side can transfer M113 tracked armored personnel carriers from army warehouses.
La Repubblica recalled that Italy had already provided Ukraine with other 155-mm Fh70 howitzers, which made a significant contribution during the spring-summer battle for Donbas and the return of the occupied Kharkiv region, and Lince armored SUVs, which are used mainly in the south.
Aid to Ukraine from Italy
Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni assured the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi of support in the fight against the Russian Federation. Zelenky invited SAMP-T air defense systems to Rome, because the defense of the sky is now the “highest priority”. But it is not yet known whether Italy will agree to send this equipment.
According to Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, on October 18, Rome provided Kiev with a new package of military aid, but what was included in it is not reported.
In total, Italy delivered five batches of equipment for the Armed Forces. Information about the content of the latest military aid packages was not publicly distributed.
