It was decided to erect a monument to Joseph Kobzon in the center of Moscow

Moscow authorities have gathered to erect a monument to the singer Iosif Kobzon in the city center. Initially, the municipal deputy of the Tverskoy district Ketevan Kharaidze wrote about this on Facebook . The plans to erect the monument were later confirmed to Echo of Moscow by the head of the Moscow City Duma’s Commission on Culture and Mass Communications, Evgeny Gerasimov.

Gerasimov noted that in order to erect a monument – as opposed to a commemorative plaque or renaming a street – there is no need to wait 10 years from the moment of death. Kobzon died two years ago.

The monument is planned to be erected in Oruzheiny Lane; the place was preliminarily determined with the participation of the widow and relatives of Kobzon.

It is planned to spend 52 million rubles on the installation of the monument.

Joseph Kobzon died on August 30, 2018 at the age of 80.

After Kobzon’s death, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin proposed to assign the name of Kobzon to the Theater Center on Dubrovka. The official noted that the singer was directly involved in the rescue of the hostages during the terrorist attack on the musical “Nord-Ost” .
