The Pope was asked if Ukraine should negotiate with the country that attacked it, and if there is a “red line” after which it can refuse to negotiate.

Pope Francis has said it is “morally acceptable” for states to supply weapons to Ukraine to help the country defend itself against Russian aggression.

It is reported by Radio Liberty with reference to Reuters.

“This is a political decision that can be moral, morally acceptable… Self-defense is not only a law, but also a manifestation of love for the Motherland. Whoever does not defend himself, who does not defend something, does not love. Someone defends, loves it,” he said.

The Pope was asked if Ukraine should negotiate with the country that attacked it, and if there is a “red line” after which it can refuse to negotiate.

“It’s difficult, but it shouldn’t be discarded. I wouldn’t rule out a dialogue with any force that is at war, even if it’s with the aggressor… Sometimes you have to have that kind of dialogue. It smells (Francis used the Italian word “puzza” (smell or stink ), which in colloquial language corresponds to the English “pinch your nose”), but it needs to be done,” he said.

The day before, Francis warned religious leaders of various faiths that religion should not be used to justify the “evil” of the war, likely referring to the Russian Orthodox Church, which supported Russian President Vladimir Putin during an unprovoked full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Recall that the Vatican has announced the approximate date of the visit of the Pope to Ukraine.

  1. This pope is a closet putler shill. He fully supported Argentina’s fascist junta when it invaded the Falklands in 1982 and still believes that he was right. This despite the fact that 1/ The Falklands were British before Argentina even existed and 2/ the islands were uninhabited.
The pope’s fascist homeland stands ready to accept the immigration of high level putinazis when they start to flee from justice. RuZZian airmen who bombed civilians are already preparing to go there.

  2. So, after 6 months of war and genocide, this pope finally finds something to say, that is so very obvious that even every school child knows.

  3. It’s not just the pope that is late but many in the west for whatever reason but the reasons don’t matter. I’m amazed how many countries are sitting on the sidelines while innocent people are being slaughtered. Unbelievable!

  4. Though some followers of Christianity are die hard pacifists due to the improper rendering of the 5th commandment in English, the original Hebrew is stated as thou shalt not murder. Solomon noted that there is a time and purpose to kill and to heal.
The commandment against murder can be viewed as a legal issue governing human relationships, noting that the first four commandments relate strongly to man’s duty to God and that the latter six commandments describe duties toward humans. The commandment against murder can also be viewed as based in respect for God himself. “The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to me from the ground. And now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand.” Genesis 4:10–11 (ESV)

The Genesis narrative also portrays the prohibition of shedding innocent blood as an important aspect of God’s covenant with Noah.

Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image.

The Torah portrays murder as a capital crime and describes a number of details in the moral understanding and legal implementation of consequences. The Priestly Code allowed the victim’s next of kin (avenger of blood) to exact retribution on the suspect; but the accused could seek sanctuary in a city of refuge. The right of the avenger of blood to such revenge ceased, upon the death of the person who was the Jewish High Priest at the time of the crime.

  5. The Torah and Hebrew Bible made clear distinctions between the shedding of innocent blood versus killing as the due consequence of a crime. A number of sins were considered to be worthy of the death penalty including murder, incest, bearing false witness on a capital charge, adultery, idolatry, bestiality, child sacrifice to pagan gods, cursing a parent, fortune-telling, homosexuality, and other sins.
