“It is a great honor to serve in the Ukrainian army”: former British MP joins the International Legion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces

03.02.2025

Jack Lopresti, former deputy chairman of the Conservative Party of Great Britain,
has joined the International Legion of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. The 55-year-old ex-MP has previously visited Ukraine repeatedly, supporting the provision of assistance to the country in the fight against Russian aggression on the international arena.

He announced his decision on social media and in an interview with the Independent. After the Conservative Party’s defeat in the parliamentary elections in July 2024, Lopresti lost his seat in parliament, but continued to actively support Ukraine.

He later visited the country again to help charities and decided to join the International Legion.

“I applied to join the legion in November. It took time to find the best unit to use my experience and skills,” the man said.

Jack Lopresti currently serves in a supporting role within the Legion , handling diplomatic matters, arms procurement, and working with veterans and charities. He is not directly on the front lines, but he does actively visit various regions of Ukraine, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Poltava.

Lopresti emphasized that it is a “great honor” for him to serve in the Ukrainian army, and expressed his firm belief that Ukrainians are fighting not only for their country, but also for all of Europe.

“If Putin wins in Ukraine, we all know that he will not stop there. Dictators must be defeated, otherwise they will never stop. […] Ukraine must be supported and given the tools to win for the sake of all of us,” Lopresti emphasized.
