It Happened in Kyiv – A Love Letter
Kyiv of Mine premiers this Sunday, August 24.
For a few minutes, step away from the chaos of Washington and Moscow, where political elites treat the people of Ukraine as pawns in a global chess match for power. Enter the world of Kyiv of Mine—the story of an aspirational people at the cutting edge of art, technology, culinary innovation, and culture, who today embody unity and indefatigable courage for the world to see.
I’m a filmmaker, and it is rare that I become so genuinely excited about the release of a project. But this time, I am.
The team behind Kyiv of Mine has done precisely what I have argued for over the past three years: bringing a new conversation to Ukraine—one that allows the world to experience the hopes, dreams, laughter, and nobility of a profoundly soulful people.
The series is very unique because it was filmed in real-time, tracing the stories of more than a dozen Kyivans beginning in 2018 to the present.
