Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said that US President Donald Trump should allow Ukraine to use US long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles to strike targets deep in Russia.
Orpo warned that russia poses a “constant threat” to European security and called on the US president to provide Ukraine with the weapons it needs to defend itself and engage vladimir putin in negotiations.
“Putin believes only in power. If we want to stop the war we have to be on the same level or even stronger,” Orpo said at the European Union leaders’ summit in Brussels.
The publication notes that Finland is one of the most influential EU countries in relations with Trump after its President Alexander Stubb became friends with the American leader on the golf course. In addition, the country shares a 1,300-kilometer border with russia.
“I really hope that they can get the capabilities that they need to [counter]strike Russia and defend themselves. We know that this is a question between Zelenskyy and the United States and I really hope they can find a solution,” Orpo said.
He added: “This is not only a question of Tomahawks. If we can find a solution on how we can finance Ukraine strongly and find a long-term solution using frozen assets it will be so strong a message to Putin that he understands that he cannot win this war. This can be a game changer (of the war – ed.).”
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that putin showed interest in peace with Trump only when he offered to allow Ukraine to use Tomahawk missiles, and as soon as Trump withdrew the cruise missile issue from the discussion, russia refused peace.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, US President Donald Trump commented on the issue of transferring Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine and emphasized that the key obstacle is the long training period for operators.
According to Axios, US President Donald Trump told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a tense meeting on Friday that he does not intend to provide long-range Tomahawk missiles. At least for now, as it prioritizes diplomacy.

How about sending the Taurus as promised. Get onto Merz about his pre-election statements.
The only thing pootin understands is force.
Its sad. Trump is using the same excuse not to send Tomahawks that Biden used not to send F-16s, that it would take too long. Well, if we started the process soon after Trump was inaugurated, we would have just 3 more months to complete the process. Same as with the F-16s, if the process was started in March of 2022 the whole system would have been completed 2 years ago.
