Israel strikes building in Qom where Iran’s new supreme leader was being elected, media report

March 3, 2026

The attack was aimed at the Assembly of Experts building in the city of Qom to disrupt the process of appointing a new Iranian leader.

Axios writes about this.

Qom is a holy city for Shiite Muslims, who make up the vast majority of Iran’s population.

The Assembly of Experts is a key body in the regime that has the power to appoint a new leader of the Islamic Republic. Members of the council vote on candidates from a shortlist drawn up by a secret committee.

The Axios source said the attack occurred during the vote count. It is not yet known how many of the 88 council members were in the building at the time of the attack or the extent of the damage.

“We wanted to prevent them from electing a new supreme leader,” the official said.

  • The Israelis and Americans, during the military operation “Roaring Lion” (“Epic Fury”) launched against Iran on Saturday, February 28, 2026, struck the residence of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has been the country’s de facto ruler since 1989.

  1. Let’s hope that all of those creatures were given the opportunity to meet their 72 virgin goats.

    • Someone is telling huge lies. The Iranians say they have elected a new leader, while TACO claims the top 40 or 50 officils have been killed, yet they miss the natural successor?

  2. ““We wanted to prevent them from electing a new supreme leader,” the official said.”

It appears they failed to destroy the trash, unless the Iranians are lying of course.
