The signatories also condemned “in the strongest terms” Russia’s gross violation of international law.

The defense ministers of the G7 countries support Ukraine’s “irreversible path” to full Euro-Atlantic integration, including NATO membership . This is stated in a joint declaration by the heads of defense departments of the G7 countries following a meeting in Naples, Italy.

In particular, the document notes support for Ukraine’s right to self-defense and reaffirms its commitment to Ukraine’s long-term security, including through the fulfillment of bilateral security obligations.

“We reaffirm the importance of synergies and coherence between the support provided by NATO, the EU and on a bilateral or multilateral basis. … We underline our intention to continue to provide assistance to Ukraine, including military assistance in the short and long term. We support Ukraine in its irreversible path towards full Euro-Atlantic integration, including membership in NATO,” the declaration says.

The G7 Defence Ministers also reaffirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine in its defence against Russia’s brutal and full-scale illegal war of conquest and condemned Russia, which “has introduced a posture of confrontation and destabilisation on a global scale, also resorting to hybrid warfare and irresponsible use of nuclear rhetoric”:

“We reaffirm our unwavering support for Ukraine’s freedom, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity for as long as necessary.”

The signatories also condemned “in the strongest terms” Russia’s gross violation of international law, including the UN Charter, and its repeated and deliberate attacks on civilian and critical infrastructure.

“We believe that Russia’s aggression against Ukraine poses a threat to international security, the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and the rules of international order. Revenues from frozen Russian sovereign assets held in the EU and other jurisdictions will be used to support Ukraine, including through military, budgetary and reconstruction assistance in the short and long term,” the declaration says.
