Key Facts

The group, the Handala Hack Team, published photos of Patel and his resume on their website, according to Reuters.

The Justice Department told Reuters that Patel’s emails had been compromised, but did not provide additional details.

Handala said Friday it hacked Patel in retaliation for the Justice Department seizing its domains, CBS reported.

The Justice Department said last week it seized two Handala Hack domains and two others that were used by Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security in “hacking efforts tied to psychological operations and transnational repression.”

Crucial Quote

“Kash Patel, the current head of the FBI, who once saw his name displayed with pride on the agency’s headquarters, will now find his name among the list of successfully hacked victims. The so-called ‘impenetrable’ systems of the FBI were brought to their knees within hours by our team,” the group said, according to CBS.

Tangent

Handala took credit for hacking the Michigan-based medical tech company Stryker earlier this month, the first major Iran-linked hacking of a U.S. entity since the war began. The hackers wiped some employees’ work phones back to factory settings, NBC reported, citing cybersecurity expert Rafe Pilling, who said Handala appeared to have obtained access to Stryker through its Microsoft Intune management console. Stryker confirmed it had been hit by a cyberattack in a statement at the time, but said there was no indication of a ransomware or malware attack.

Key Background

Iran used Handala Hack domains to claim credit for the Stryker attack, posted sensitive personal information of Israeli government and defense officials and sent death threats to Iranian dissidents and journalists in the U.S. using a Handala Hack email account, the Justice Department said last week. Handala’s X account was also suspended, according to NBC. The group confirmed the FBI action on its Telegram account and said it would go live with a new website soon. Handala is connected to the state-sponsored hacker group, Void Manticore, Wired reported, citing Tel Aviv-based cybersecurity firm Check Point. Void Manticore created Handala in the wake of the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas terrorist attacks, fronting as pro-Palestinian to attack Israeli targets, according to Wired.

    • Patel’s only talent is his ability to slide into a certain orange rectum without any need for vaseline.
