The IOC administration has called on winter sports organizations that have bans in place for Russians to reconsider them.

The current head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, said the current strategy of equating governments and athletes is wrong. He believes that Russian athletes should be allowed to participate in the 2026 Olympic Games. He said this in an interview with the Associated Press .

The agency recalled that Russia was banned from all team sports in Paris, leaving the country’s path back to hockey, the favorite winter sport of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, unclear.

It is noted that the decision on Russia’s participation in the Olympic Games will be made by Bach’s successor. Nevertheless, his administration has already called on winter sports organizations that have bans for Russians to reconsider them.

“The mission of the Olympic movement is to unite. This is something that winter sports federations should look at very carefully,” he said.
