US President Donald Trump announced that he had a phone call with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, February 2. He said the Indian prime minister agreed to stop buying Russian oil . The American leader made the announcement on his social media account, TruthSocial .
“It was an honor to speak with Prime Minister Modi of India this morning. He is one of my best friends and a powerful and respected leader of his country. We discussed many issues, including trade and ending the war between Russia and Ukraine. He agreed to stop buying Russian oil and buy much more oil from the United States and possibly Venezuela. This will help end the war in Ukraine, which is going on right now and is killing thousands of people every week,” Trump wrote.
The American leader also shared that Washington had agreed to the immediate entry into force of the trade agreement with India. He explained that it entails a reduced reciprocal tariff for the United States, reducing it from 25% to 18%.
“They will also move forward to reduce their tariffs and non-tariff barriers against the United States to zero,” Trump added.
