The losses in the 3rd Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine differ from the combined losses when it comes to logistics. This factor allowed increasing the combat effectiveness of the unit’s fighters by three times.
This was reported by the deputy commander of the 3rd Army Corps and former commander of the Azov Regiment, Maksym Zhorin, in an exclusive interview with OBOZ.UA. The officer said that even at the positions, the losses are lower than on the way to them.
“The losses vary significantly. It’s difficult for me to give the data, because I only know the total figure approximately. But if we’re talking about logistics, we’ve drastically reduced losses during transportation. And these are the biggest losses for any units today. In general, in the army, even at positions, fewer people are injured and killed than during movements to and from them. Because today you usually have to walk not 1-2 km, but 7, 10, sometimes 15 km,” he said.
For comparison, the lieutenant colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine gave other figures using the example of brigades that joined the 3rd Army Corps. In two months of leadership by officers of the 3rd Army Corps, as Zhorin explained, losses in these brigades decreased threefold.
“And it’s only been two months. In this short time period, it’s impossible to implement all the possible measures. These are basic, primitive things that commanders can immediately implement,” he summarizes.
Zhorin advocates innovation in the army
Note that Maksym Zhorin reported that the Ukrainian army is undergoing technological changes that are introducing modern approaches to warfare. But, in his opinion, all this is happening from the bottom up, because when an initiative somehow makes its way up, then it is at least somehow implemented and scaled up.
“There is a lot of initiative at the bottom. Of course, you can’t blindly take absolutely everything at once and scale it up. But you need to react, check, analyze, and scale it up. The best example of this is actually the 3rd Assault Brigade and the 3rd Army Corps,” he explained.
What is happening in the Ukrainian army?
As a reminder, earlier, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky stated that a large-scale corps reform is underway in the army , even despite the difficult situation at the front. The already created corps have acquired certain capabilities, and now the second stage of reform is underway – the increase and redeployment of brigades.
As OBOZ.UA reported, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are further expanding and improving the Unmanned Systems Forces as a separate branch of the armed forces. All target strikes undergo mandatory verification , and additional battalions of unmanned systems are being introduced into the assault regiments.
So, according to the colonel, the majority of losses for any unit are caused by the movement of personnel to and from the front-line positions. Of course, this doesn’t go for the cockroaches, who are also getting slaughtered by their incessant attacks, but this is a good thing.
