✈️ “IN THREE DAYS, YOU’LL BE FLYING TO LAUNCH HARMs” Dmytro is a Ukrainian Su-27 fighter pilot with the 39th Tactical Aviation Brigade, who had dreamed of aviation since childhood. He flew his first combat sortie in August 2023. After completing his retraining, he arrived at the airfield, hoping to learn from experienced pilots. Instead, his commander told him: “In three days, you’ll be flying to launch HARMs.”
Since then, Dmytro has carried out numerous combat missions. He has deployed over 200 aerial bombs. He has had to maneuver to evade enemy missiles and make split-second decisions. 💬 “No matter the situation, you have to assess the risks,” the pilot says. Despite the danger, Dmytro is in love with the sky. He especially enjoys watching the sunrise and sunset while returning from combat missions. And his greatest dream is Victory and peaceful skies. 💬 “For me, Victory means living at home in peace, flying such awesome aircraft, and just enjoying it.” 🇺🇦

There are only about 15 of these SU 27’s still in service and they are still doing a vital job despite being probably 40 years old.
It reminds me of the RAF in 1940 : “so much owed by so many to so few.”
