On Tuesday, February 8, during an extraordinary meeting of the Slovak Parliament, an incident occurred with the Ukrainian flag.

This is reported by the Slovak edition of Hospodárske noviny.

During the meeting, the deputies planned to approve a defense agreement with the United States, which would allow the American army to use the infrastructure of two military airports in Slovakia.

Two deputies from the far-right and pro-Russian “People’s Party Our Slovakia” Andrei Medvetsky and Peter Krupa blocked the podium, covering it with an unfurled Slovak flag. Thus they planned to disrupt the vote.

At the same time, representatives of the pro-government Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party Yana Tsyganikova and Miroslav Zhiyak, in opposition to their colleagues, came to the podium and unfurled the flag of Ukraine. In response, Deputy Medvetsky took a bottle of water and began to pour over the flag of Ukraine and the deputies who were holding it.

However, the incident did not frighten the deputies with the Ukrainian flag. They shook off the water and continued to stand next to the podium, demonstrating support for Ukraine. Then their fellow party members Marek Kotleba and Stanislav Mizik rudely took away the Ukrainian flag and slapped Zhiyak. From the impact, the deputy’s protective mask flew off.

Subsequently, Zhiyak said that he would go to the police with a statement about the theft of the flag. The incident was caught on video.

  1. That party is not far right. It is far left. Anyone pro-Russia is statist which is not on the right. People like Stalin and Hitler loved each other until Hitler’s paranoia got the best of him. Stalin called Hitler “the icebreaker for the revolution.”
