In Russia, vegetable prices rose 12 times faster than official inflation, – SZR

In Russia, the cost of a basic vegetable set increased by 56% in the first six months of 2026, which is 12 times higher than the official inflation rate. Cabbage and potatoes rose the most during this time.

As Censor.NET reports , citing the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine , for the period from December 2025 to June 2026, official inflation in the Russian Federation was 4.64%, while prices for potatoes, cabbage, beets, carrots, and onions increased by an average of 56%.

According to intelligence, the most expensive vegetable basket was recorded in Chukotka, where in June it cost 1,675 rubles – almost five times the national average. Yakutia and Kamchatka were also among the regions with the highest prices.

The most significant price increase in six months was for cabbage – by 70%, from 34 to 58 rubles per kilogram. Potatoes rose in price by 69%, carrots by 52%, onions by 49%, and beets by 42%.

The absolute leader in terms of price increases was the Samara region, where the cost of a vegetable basket increased by 97%. In the Moscow region, the increase was 93%, in the Bryansk region – 92%, in the Mari El region – 89%, in the Ulyanovsk region – 86%, in the Penza region – 84%.

According to the SZR, high rates of price growth were also recorded in the country’s largest cities. In Moscow, the price of a vegetable basket increased by 76%, and in St. Petersburg – by 64%.
